A technology project usually looks fine on paper. Every step is in the right order, every team knows its part, and the dates add up. Then a shipment arrives damaged, a contractor runs a week late, or a circuit does not get provisioned when the carrier said it would – and because each step was waiting on the one before it, a single slip moves everything.
The plan was not wrong. It was rigid. Our job is to build one that bends, and to be the person who notices the slip in week two rather than the week before go-live.
A telecom firm was opening retail stores in hundreds of cities and consistently missing milestones. Site construction, wiring and power, connectivity, equipment and testing all had to line up, and when one slipped the rest followed. We assessed it, found the workflow itself was the problem, and reworked it with the construction, technology, logistics and support teams. Within 30 days the project was back on track, with nearly all stores opening on schedule and under budget.
