A press citation, and a takeaway worth keeping
Techopedia ran a feature on AI in the security operations center that included a quote from Itwerx. The useful part of that conversation was not the quote itself so much as the underlying observation: there is a wide range in how well “AI in the SOC” actually works in practice, and the label alone tells a buyer almost nothing.
A lot of older security products are trying to refresh their positioning by adding AI features on top of an existing platform. The results are mixed. “AI inside” turns out to be considerably less of a differentiator than the marketing around it suggests, because the feature can be present without meaningfully changing what the product catches or how fast it responds.
One vendor doing it well: SentinelOne
SentinelOne is worth naming specifically for doing this well rather than bolting AI onto an unrelated product line. An effective security posture is always multi-layered – no single tool, AI-enabled or not, is the whole answer – and out of the roughly dozen or so security products Itwerx mixes and matches for clients, SentinelOne is included more often than any other.
That “roughly a dozen” is worth being precise about: it is an approximation of the working stack, not a measured count, and it reflects a deliberate approach – matching specific tools to specific client environments rather than standardizing on one vendor’s full suite and hoping it covers everything. The reason SentinelOne shows up more than any other single product is that it has, so far, kept earning that place rather than being assumed into it.
The general lesson travels past this one vendor: when evaluating a security product that advertises AI, ask what specifically changed in its detection and response, not whether the feature exists. “AI inside” is a marketing line until it is shown to be something more.
